The Peace Corp has an Older Americans program that brings seniors to countries all over the world for two years to use their experience, maturity and demonstrated ability as a way to help children, communities and people in general all over the world. There is no prerequisite career or job and no age limit. There is a small compensation but this is still considered a volunteer opportunity. Before you travel to a developing country, Peace Corps trains you for three months on the culture, language, transportation, food, etc. of the country you will be working in. Don’t expect glamor when you get sent off to a third world country, but what you can expect is a learning experience that widens your horizons and gives you an understanding of another culture in no other way attainable.
